Labor supports the Australian Government’s decision to send Australian Federal Police and Australian Defence Force personnel to the Solomon Islands following unrest in Honiara in recent days.

We thank the men and women of the AFP and ADF who have stepped up to assist in the Solomon Islands.

We note that this decision has been made in response to a request from the Government of the Solomon Islands.

The recent violence and attacks on property are deeply concerning.

It is important that Australia helps to restore stability to the Solomon Islands.

Australia must remain a partner of choice to Pacific nations and assist them in their times of need.

Labor encourages all sides to show restraint and engage in genuine dialogue to resolve their differences.
