Liberals Must Stop the Gimmicks and Come Clean With Their Real Plans

13 May 2013

The Liberals have once again tried to divert attention away from their real plans, launching a scrapbook that is nothing more than a gimmick in an attempt to distract from the savage cuts they would make if elected.
Yet again, instead of coming clean with Australians about their policies and the cuts they would make to fund them, Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey have held a press conference about a glossy booklet.
Mr Abbott has a responsibility on Thursday night to deliver a real Budget Reply speech outlining what cuts he would make, what he would spend and what policies he would introduce.
Australians deserve to know what Mr Abbott would do.
Gimmicks and slogans are not good enough for a man wanting to be Australias Prime Minister.
Failure by Mr Abbott to reveal his real plans on Thursday night will confirm that he thinks he can cruise to the election by keeping Australians in the dark.
Federal Labor has done the hard work to improve the way the public sector operates with over $14 billion of savings found since 2007.
Weve made real savings that have reduced the cost blow outs we saw under John Howard in campaign advertising, travel and executive levels of the public service.
Weve increased transparency and accountability, in contrast to the wholesale rorting carried out under the Coalition through the Regional Partnerships Programme.
The Gillard Government will always find the responsible savings that put Australian jobs and the economy first.
Tony Abbotts Coalition would cut to the bone. And its increasingly clear that Mr Abbott wont tell Australians what his real plans are.
